Spink Shreves Galleries - The Sovereign Collection - May 13-14, 2008
The "Sovereign" Collection was formed over a period of decades by a
meticulous and particularly tenacious American collector. His goal was to
obtain as many different mint stamps for most countries of the British
Empire. He succeeded admirably as the collection contains innumerable
stamps that are almost never seen on the market today - whether they
catalog £250 or £50,000. In addition to stamps from the British Empire, the
collector also formed valuable collections of stamps from selected European
countries, with particular emphasis on Germany and Colonies.
The owner of the "Sovereign" Collection, who wishes to remain anonymous,
generously donated his entire collection to the Smithsonian National Postal
Museum in Washington, DC, so that its sale at public auction would benefit
the outstanding work the Museum provides to philatelists both in the United
States and around the world.
There is no question that due to the exceptional variety and extraordinary
comprehensiveness of The "Sovereign" Collection, both general collectors
and individual country specialists are certain to find an amazing array of
scarce stamps in the auction - virtually all of which have been expertized
- and all will be offered at unreserved public auction at Spink Shreves New
York City auction gallery. Plus, both dealers and collectors alike will be
impressed with the valuable individual country collection balances offered
throughout the sale.
As with all Spink Shreves auctions, bidders may participate in the auction
- live on the internet - during the sale. Please see our website
www.SpinkShreves.com for details of this exciting bidding option. All
color-catalogs for the Sovereign Collection are available for $20.00 each
($30.00 for non-U.S. addresses). Orders for the catalog may be placed
through our website using a credit card, or orders may be placed by phone
by calling 800-556-7826 or 972-788-2700. LIVE Internet Bidding at StampAuctionNetwork.
Spink Shreves Galleries - The William H. Gross Collection of Scandinavia - May 16, 2008
On Friday, May 16, 2008 the impressive collection of Scandinavian rarities
formed by William H. Gross will be sold at unreserved public auction in New
York City. And, as is typical of the remarkably generous nature of both Sue
and Bill Gross, the entire sale proceeds will benefit an important and
worthwhile charity - the Millennium Villages Project at the Earth
Institute.
The Gross Collection of Scandinavia, while relatively small in the number
of lots offered (110), will be regarded as an important auction event in
the field of Scandinavian philately. Several of the most recognizable and
valuable rarities from Denmark, Iceland, Norway and Sweden are found in the
auction - with particular emphasis on the classic first issues of Finland.
As with all Spink Shreves auctions, bidders may participate in the auction
- live on the internet - during the sale. Please see our website
www.SpinkShreves.com for details of this exciting bidding option
The Gross Collection of Scandinavian rarities will be appropriately honored
and preserved in a special hardbound all-color auction catalog. It has been
similarly designed much like his catalog for the now famous sale of his
magnificent Great Britain collection, which last year realized the highest
amount for any single stamp auction ever conducted. These and any future
Gross Collection sales catalogs will certainly form an incomparable “set”
for any philatelic library.
Catalogs for the William H. Gross Collection of Scandinavia are now
available for $40.00 each ($50.00 to non-U.S. addresses). Orders may be
placed online using a credit card at www.SpinkShreves.com or by calling
800-556-7826 or 972-788-2100. LIVE Internet Bidding at StampAuctionNetwork.
