mail going out of Bolivia's seacoast port of La Chamba, on 1877 cover to Hamburg, Germany, matching ornate "Cancelado" oval and boxed "Franca", in addition there is a very rare "La Chimba/Enrero./21 1877" three-line handstamp on the reverse,
sent via British packet with three-line "Panama/4 FE 1877/Transit" handstamp, London c.d.s. transit on the reverse and backstamped Hamburg, rated "360" due in blue crayon, edge wrinkles and opened a bit roughly at top not affecting any markings,
nearly very fine; a very rare ship cover to an equally rare destination as very little mail during this period was sent to Germany; signed P. Holcombe and accompanied by his 1989 certificate.(Image)

"Correos de la Chimba/Bolivia" negative blue ship illustrated handstamp, Department of Litoral, an unusually well struck example of this marking illustrating a ship,
on 1877 cover to Lausanne, Switzerland, furthermore, a variety of services was required to get it there, possesses two strikes of a matching "Franca" straight line handstamp, transported to Callao, Peru where turned over to the British post
office with small "Callao/SP 21 77" c.d.s. on the reverse, by British ship to Panama receiving the three line transit of Panama and then turned over to a French packet with red "Panama/Paq Fr A no.2/Oct. 1 77" octagonal c.d.s., backstamped, edge wear
to the cover at right causing a couple of edge tears and the ship marking barely affected by wrinkles, a fine and extremely rare destination; it is very likely that this is one of no more than two or three covers of this period to Switzerland, as
most of the little mail that went to Europe was to France or Great Britain; a wonderful combination of the Bolivian post office and British postal agency as well as the unusual usage of a French packet.(Image)

"Correos de la Chimba/Bolivia" negative blue ship handstamp, Department of Litoral, unusually clear strike of this rare marking with an illustration of a ship in the
center, on 1877 cover to Valparaiso, Chile with three matching strikes of the "Franca" handstamp, plus rare "Fuera de Balija" straight line handstamp, backstamped, mild cover fold at left, very fine and rare.(Image)
"Correos de la Chimba/Bolivia" negative black ship illustrated handstamp, Department of Litoral, an unusual 1875 cover to England with two full strikes of this rare
ship marking of La Chamba tying a Great Britain 6p Grey, plate 14, right wing-margin strip of three, matching black ornate "Cancelado" and boxed "Franca", the routing of this cover is a bit unusual in that it has a September 25th Valparaiso c.d.s. on
the reverse and ms. per "Liguira", the collector noted that this was sent via this ship of the Pacific Steam Navigation Company for direct transmission from Valparaiso to Liverpool, however it also has a British post office Callao c.d.s. of October
6th where it evidently entered the British system and it is unclear why it went so far south to only go back north again, backstamped Liverpool, small edge flaws to the left stamp otherwise very fine and attractive; a very rare combination of the
Bolivian post office and the British Postal Agency.(Image)

"Correos de la Chimba/Bolivia" negative black ship illustrated handstamp, Department of Litoral, an impressive 1876 cover posted out of La Chamba to Stade, Germany in
combination with Great Britain adhesives for British packet service to Europe, two strikes of the black ship postmarks both canceling and tying a Great Britain horizontal pair of the 4p Vermilion, plate 14, with a wing-margin horizontal pair of the
6p Grey, plate 15 (S.G. Callao #Z37, Z46) tied by somewhat indistinct "C38" numeral in oval of bars establishing that this entered the British post office at Callao, Peru, other Bolivian markings include two strikes of ornate blue "Cancelado"
handstamp, London transit, backstamped, stamps with a trace of perf. tip toning, tissue paper cover has small edge flaws including a corner tear at bottom right, fine and incredibly attractive; British stamps were not generally available at
Antofagasta but apparently several parties had stamps for their foreign postings thus making this exceptionally rare combination cover of the Bolivian post office there and the British Agency at Callao, Peru; 1969 RPS certificate.(Image)

tying the 1/- value, carried by post to Callao and turned over to the British post office where the stamps were tied by a single strike of the "C38" numeral cancel and a "A/Callao/DE 13 77" c.d.s. of that office was applied to the reverse,
backstamped, some age stains and edge tears to the cover, otherwise fine; presumably the sender had taken the adhesives to Tocopilla and applied them there thus the pen and Bolivian cancellations; extremely rare combination cover of the Bolivian post
office and British Postal Agency in Callao, Peru; ex-Glassco.(Image)

choice; the British postal agency in Cobija was believed to have opened in 1862 and closed in 1881, the largest percentage of the few covers that are known from this post office are from the mid-1870's, this cover of 1867 is very much out of the
ordinary and exceedingly rare in this premium condition from this early period.(Image)

"Correos de la Chimba/Bolivia" negative black ship illustrated handstamp, Department of Litoral, a marvelous strike of this ship cancel in black which is far rarer than
the blue, on an amazing 1875 combination cover with the British Postal Agency in Bolivia to France, other Bolivian markings of the La Chimba (Antofagast) post office include an equally well struck ornate "Cancelado" oval and boxed "Franca",
turned over to the British Post office in Lamar with clear "Cobija/C/JY 22 75" c.d.s. and franked with Great Britain 2p Blue, plate 13 and 1/- Green, plate 10 (S.G. #Z2 var., Z10; only plate 14 is listed for the 2p and even it is not priced),
indistinctly cancelled by what is presumed to be light "C39" cancels of the Cobija British post office, the 1/- value is also tied by the French Calais entry transit, red London transit and red "PD" are also on the front, backstamped Paris; choice
very fine; of all the British Postal Agency offices Cobija in Bolivia is among the rarest, very few covers are known with Great Britain adhesives used out of this office, and even covers originating out of Bolivia with Great Britain stamps often
enter the British postal system at Callao, Peru or some other British office; this cover is the epitome of a combination cover of the Bolivian and British post offices, not only is it of the greatest rarity but it is probably the finest and most
beautiful example of this usage with marvelously clear markings and colors all on the front; this cover was featured as the color frontispiece in the famous Glassco Collection of British Post Offices Abroad; signed A. D(iena) and accompanied by a
1972 RPS certificate; ex-Glassco.(Image)

with various post post marks of Antofagasta, includes four singles including a 10p Red Brown, plate 1, plus a rejoined pair of the 4p Vermilion, plate 14, all cancelled with "Cancelado" oval of La Chimba, plus a 1/- Green plate 13 tied to piece by
the Antofagasta 10c frank and a 6p Gray, plate 16 with a central fancy diamond "Franca" handstamp, etc. condition of the stamps varies with a few faults present, but most are fine-very fine and an exceptionally rare assemblage of some of the rarest
postmarks on British stamps.(Image)
