#206-E5, (1c) Lincoln, vignette only, die essay on white ivory paper, a rare complete set of all five colors listed in the Scott catalog, ranging in size from
47x50mm to 50x62mm, very fine; also accompanied by a handsome engraved similar Lincoln vignette incorporated into a small patriotic design on card; ex-Finkelburg.
#208-E1, 6c Black, die essay on India, mounted on card measuring 43x41mm, a design very nearly identical the final accepted design, except minor
differences, including unfinished shading, some unobtrusive tone spots, otherwise very fine and rare, as this is the only reported example; 1990 PF certificate.
#208TC1, 6c Indigo, large die trial color proof, die sunk on card measuring 76x103, showing full die sinkage, with "Duplicate Die - C - 60/American Bank Note Co. N.Y."
imprint below, extremely fine; incredibly handsome as well as quite scarce.

toning as found on all existing examples, trivial natural paper inclusion, minor hinge thin, very fine appearance; no more than five are believed to have been produced; a review of existing examples suggests all of these have flaws to some
degree; this most unusual color may have been struck but not used at the Panama-Pacific presentation; ex-Brazer.
#208P2a, 6c Rose, "Panama-Pacific" small die proof on wove, another example in yet an even different unissued shade than the previous lot, this being in a bright
almost "pinkish" shade, usual slight paper toning as found on all existing examples, small thin and a nick at top, very fine appearance; no more than five are believed to have been produced; almost all of which have flaws; this most unusual
color may have been struck but not used at the Panama-Pacific presentation; ex-Brazer.
#208P3/208aP4, 6c Lincoln, plate proof collection of nine different items, includes three blocks of four of plate proofs on India blocks of four in various shades
(Rose, Dull rose and Deep rose), plate proofs on card include singles of all four printings (in various shades), plus a top margin and imprint strip of eight and a block of eight (both in the Brown rose shade), all quite well margined, couple of
trivial flaws (primarily on the India paper blocks), otherwise very fine.
#208aP3, 6c Brown red, plate proof on India, an impressive bottom left corner margin block of 24 (8x3) mounted on card, deep luxuriant color and impression on bright paper, extremely
fine; a rare and handsome proof multiple.
#208SD/208SL, 6c Lincoln, "Specimen" and "Sample" group, consisting of two singles (different shades) with "SPECIMEN." type D overprint in red, a 6c Brown red with "SAMPLE."
overprint type K in blue on a bottom margin imprint and plate number "No. 127" strip of five (no gum), and concluding with a 6c Vermilion bottom margin imprint and plate "No. 127" strip of five with blue "SAMPLE/A." type L overprint, all well
centered, o.g. (except for one strip as noted), couple of trivial flaws, still very fine; a scarce assemblage.

#208, 6c Rose, an extremely rare full top margin imprint and plate "No. 127" block of eight, strong color, o.g., various flaws such as minor gum toning, small thin
spot in top left stamp, some perf. separations, etc., nonetheless this plate block is almost never encountered, in fact this is the first such plate block of Scott #208 we have ever offered in our auctions, even the magnificent Wampler collection
which we sold in 1998 (noted for being incredibly comprehensive) did not have an example of this plate; 2001 PSE certificate.
#208a, 6c Pale brown red, very scarce mint block of four, considerably stronger color than typically encountered, attractively centered, o.g., minor h.r., a few inconsequential
perf. separations, fine-very fine; 1983 PF certificate.
#208a, 6c Brown red, used in combination with 1c Ultramarine 1887 issue (#212), a pair of the former and a single of the latter tied to 2c Brown stamped envelope of
the period, sent registered return receipt from New York City to Manila, Philippine Islands, multiple double oval "New York/Reg" cancels, plus violet boxed New York registration handstamp, sent via San Francisco and with that city's red
three-line registered marking on reverse, some tears to backflap, very fine; an attractive cover to a rare destination, being the only reported example used to the Philippines bearing the Six Cent issue of 1882.
#148, 159, Specialized group of 6c Lincoln Bank Note New York Foreign Mail covers, a visually attractive and scarce group of 14 covers, 1870-76, all franked with at
least one 6c Bank Note issue of 1870 or 1873, typically most are in combination with other values, destinations are England, France, Germany and Switzerland, a wide variety of NYFM cancels represented, including several that are the ornate geometric
types, we note one cover with a scarce red supplementary mail c.d.s., all wonderfully annotated, few typical cover flaws, but overall most are fine-very fine, with most cancels extremely well struck; a perfect lot for the NYFM specialist
#159, 186, 208, 208a, 6c Lincoln Bank Note cancellation collection, a wonderful assemblage of 116 used singles (plus two pairs and a block of four), the majority
being the 1873 6c Dull rose Continental printings, but also several examples of the 1879 and 1883 printings, all carefully selected over many years by Mr. Ainsworth for their unusual and/or eye-appealing cancellations, includes an impressive range of
fancy and recognizable types, such as the blue Chicago "KK" in coffin (PF certificate), Waterbury leafs, Leominster stovepipe, pumpkin face, intricate "U.S. Mail", Masonic bible, stars, geometric (including NYFM), shamrock, Nagasaki, Japan c.d.s., in
addition to many colored cancellations, all-in-all an extremely desirable group that would take considerable effort to duplicate, as with all cancellation studies several stamps with inconsequential small flaws, although a number are quite sound as
well, overall fine-very fine, with most cancellations very fine.
#186, 208, The postal history balance of 35 covers bearing the 6c Lincoln American Bank Note Company issues of 1879 and 1882, a marvelous assemblage of unusual and
scarce usages all franked with at least one 6c stamp, 28 covers are on exhibition pages and well annotated, plus seven new additions waiting to be mounted, domestic usages include a number with additional Bank Note adhesives, including registered
usages with a 6c & 30c combination, and another with 1c, 6c & 30c combination, western usages are noted including covers from Fort McDowell, Arizona, Fort Wingate, N.M. and Eureka, Nevada, foreign destinations are particularly well represented by
many scarce and valuable covers, better destinations include Australia (2), Austria, Chile, New Zealand (3), Norway and Prussia, excellent range of markings and rates, three and four-color frankings, etc., many were acquired individually by Mr.
Ainsworth at auction or on a retail basis, condition quite nice overall, largely fine-very fine; a desirable group of covers that are not easy to find today.
