tied to a famous printed Bissell correspondence cover to Ahmednuggur, India by three neat strikes of circle of wedges postmarks, light strike of red New York c.d.s. just ties 6c stamp, clear "London/Paid/5 Ju 71" transit c.d.s. at left, oval
Sea Post Office marking on reverse as well as red arrival c.d.s., some very slight edge flaws, very fine; 2009 PF certificate.
#155, 90c Carmine, deep vibrant color and a well incised impression on fresh paper, nicely centered within large margins, full original gum, mild h.r., a very fine and
desirable example of this scarce mint high value; 1989 PF certificate.
#157, 2c Brown, exceedingly well centered and margined, intensely rich color in a deep shade, full o.g., lightly hinged, extremely fine and uncommonly choice; 1999 PF certificate and a
2007 PSE certificate (XF 90; SMQ $1,000.00).
#159P1, 6c Pink, large die proof on India, die sunk on card measuring 72x83mm and showing dull die sinkage, with "National Bank Note Co. N.Y." imprint at bottom of India, fresh and very fine.
#159, 6c Dull pink, nicely centered within
large margins, fresh color, part o.g., h.r., very fine; 1976 PF certificate.
#159, 6c Dull pink, a striking full top margin imprint and plate "No. 18" block of twelve, possessing a marvelous overall freshness not expected on a multiple of
this vintage, gorgeous rich color and impression on crisp paper, unusually well centered for such a large multiple, o.g. (natural short gumming at top of top row), several stamps are n.h., some sensibly reinforced separated perforations at top of
vertical row between the fourth and fifth stamps, fourth stamp at top with small tear, very fine appearance; overall a handsome example of this plate block rarity; Chapin records ten plate blocks in his census, two of which are in panes of fifty.
#159, 6c Dull rose, a wonderful trio of three choice covers, all from the same 1875 correspondence from Syracuse, N.Y. to London, England, each franked with a single
copy of the 6c Dull pink, but each is tied by a different fancy cancel, including geometric, negative "US" and Masonic, all excellent strikes of the fancy cancel, as well as the Syracuse originating c.d.s. and red London Paid receivers,
certificates mention trivial flaws still very fine; each cover accompanied by a 2009 PF certificate.
#159, 6c Dull rose, horizontal strip of four, used on a 1874 cover to the Seychelles Islands (addressed as "Sea Shells Islands/Indian Ocean"), stamp with light central
strikes of target cancels, "Chester, Vt./Aug 15" originating c.d.s. at bottom left, red New York and London transit c.d.s on front, clear "Seychelles/B/Oc 19 74" arrival c.d.s. on reverse, two small edge tears (one just affecting one 6c stamp),
overall fine and attractive; the strip of four paid the 24c British mail rate; the only reported Six Cent Bank Note cover to the Seychelles.
#159, 6c Dull rose, two well margined singles, used on rare cover to Yokohama, Japan, "Bedford Station, N.Y./Aug 21" (1876) originating c.d.s., red New York
transit c.d.s. on reverse, along with partial Yokohama arrival datestamp, with the two stamps representing an overpayment of the 5c U.P.U. rate (the old 12c rate had been in effect until April, 1876), most of backflap missing, very fine;
ex-"Patrick Henry".
#160TC2, 7c Stanton, small die trial color proofs on India, in the five known colors, all are relatively full sized, the dull red is mounted on card, very fine and seldom offered.
#160, 7c Vermilion, bright single tied to 1874 folded letter to Germany by fancy star NYFM pmk. (Weiss ST-MP3), the cancel being particularly well struck, red New
York transit c.d.s. and blue merchant's oval handstamp at bottom left, redirected within Germany, Frankfurt backstamp, a very fine cover with excellent eye appeal; 2002 PF certificate; ex-Boker.
#161, 10c Brown, noteworthy mint single, with excellent centering amid lavishly large margins all around, fresh color, o.g., never hinged, extremely fine; any
