#20, 1c Blue, Ty. II, incredibly fresh and
bright, rich luxuriant color and impression on crisp paper, attractively
centered, unusually clean full o.g. with just the barest trace of a hinge
mark, very fine and choice; 1997 PSE certificate.
#21, 1c Blue, Ty. III, an extraordinarily rare
unused example of this difficult type, being not only one of the few
sound certified unused examples in existence, but this particular copy
is incredibly fresh as well, boasting gloriously rich color and an
excellent clarity of impression which helps to show the all important Ty.
III design characteristics, particularly well centered as well, especially
when compared to other examples in past auction catalogs, a very fine and
choice example of a stamp that is missing in even the most advanced
collections of mint/unused U.S. stamps; 2000 PF certificate.
#21, 1c Blue, Ty. III, an exceptional used
example of this truly rare and notoriously difficult stamp, possessing far
better centering than the vast majority, with uncommonly large margins,
deep luxuriant color and a well defined impression on bright paper, black
town c.d.s., extremely fine for this; 1986 PF certificate.
#22, 1c Blue, Ty. IIIa, very scarce mint example
of this type, unusually well centered and margined for this tightly spaced
issue, deep luxuriant color and a strong detailed impression, full o.g.,
realtively lightly hinged, choice very fine; a particularly elusive stamp
both this well centered and with full original gum; 2001 PF certificate.
#22, 1c Blue, Ty. IIIa, an incomparable used
example in the finest imaginable quality, possessing absolutely perfect
centering amid enormously large margins, in fact the margins are so large
that the perforations of the stamp are completely clear of the design all
around, the first such instance we have ever seen on this stamp, rich
luxuriant color and a sharp impression on bright paper, very light and
unobtrusive grid pmk., superb; a world-class gem whose equal we believe
does not exist; due to the extreme rarity of this stamp in this remarkable
quality, the Scott catalog value quoted will bear little resemblance to the
final price this stamp realizes; 2001 PF certificate.
#23, 1c Blue, Ty. IV, a most remarkable quality
used example of one of the most challenging stamps of the 19th century to
find in premium condition, as most perforated Type IV stamps come terribly
off center and with little or no margins, the example offered here
possesses absolutely perfect centering and has extravagantly large margins
all around, wide enough to show full design characteristics both at top and
bottom, strong fresh color and impression on bright paper, light town pmks.
which do not obscure the design in any way, extremely fine; a major
condition rarity in this gem condition; 2000 PSE certificate.
#24, 1c Blue, Ty. V, an incomparable quality mint
example of a relatively available stamp, however this magnificent copy
features physical characteristics which are unrivaled by any other we have
seen, most impressive of all are this stamp's gigantic margins that are
unheard of on stamps from this tightly spaced plate, absolutely perfectly
centered within these huge jumbo margins, its color could not be more
intense nor its impression more detailed on immaculate paper, pristine
o.g., never hinged, superb; a record realization is in store for
this "one-in-a-million" gem; 2000 PF certificate.
#24, 1c Blue, Ty. V, pristine mint single,
extraordinarily well centered, sumptuously rich color, pristine o.g.,
never hinged, extremely fine; a "post office" fresh gem; photocopy
of a 1986 PF certificate for a block of eight from which this stamp was
taken.
#26, 3c Dull red, Ty. II, impeccably centered,
brilliantly fresh and bright, strong color and impression, pristine o.g.,
never hinged, extremely fine; a stamp for the perfectionist;
photocopy of a 1995 PF certificate for a block of twelve from which this
stamp was taken.
#27, 5c Brick red, Ty. I, a magnificent quality
used example of this always difficult stamp, possessing several exceptional
physical attributes which are almost impossible to find, including being
perfectly centered within uncharacteristically large margins, in fact the
margins are so large that no portion of the design is impinged by the
perforations (a very rare occurrence), additionally this stamp's color is
the definitive example of this distinctive shade, all wonderfully
complemented by a light strike of a blue Burlington, Vt. c.d.s., an
extremely fine gem; an exemplary example of this rare and challenging
stamp; 1997 and 2000 PF certificates.
#29, 5c Brown, Ty. I, a gem used example of this
very difficult stamp, possessing exceptional eye-appealing qualities,
including being extraordinarily well centered, with its perforations
virtually clearing the design all around, gorgeous rich color and a deep
impression which contrast wonderfully with its bright white paper,
beautifully postmarked with a light double circle town cancel, extremely
fine and choice; 1987 PF certificate.
#30, 5c Orange brown, Ty. II, an uncommonly fresh
mint single, exceptionally rich color and a strong impression on bright
paper, wonderfully well centered, full clean o.g., lightly hinged, very
fine and quite choice; photocopy of a 1996 PF certificate for a block of
four, this being the bottom left stamp.
#30A, 5c Brown, Ty. II, a handsome and choice
mint example, which is far more rare mint than its Orange brown counterpart
which was remaindered at the time of demonitization, sumptuously rich color
and a highly detailed impression, quite well centered, full clean o.g.,
lightly hinged, very fine; 2001 PF certificate.
#30A, 5c Brown, Ty. II, fresh mint example, deep
rich color and a well defined impression on crisp paper, nicely centered,
full o.g., minor h.r., very fine; 1996 PF certificate.
#31, 10c Green, Ty. I, a lovely used example
which possesses extraordinarily large margins all around, particularly for
a Ty. I design, and being incredibly well centered within them, with its
perforations well clear of the design, strong rich color and impression,
light and unobtrusive town c.d.s, extremely fine; an especially scarce
stamp in this gem condition; 1999 PF certificate.
#35, 10c Green, Ty. V, an exceptionally handsome
and choice mint single, possessing flawless centering amid lavishly large
margins for the issue, luxuriously rich color and impression on bright
paper, full clean o.g., lightly hinged, an extremely fine gem for the
perfectionist; 1988 and 1996 PF certificates.
#36, 12c Black, plate I, a truly lovely used
horizontal pair, in a most extraordinary quality, being wonderfully well
centered for this notoriously difficult stamp, outstanding color and a
remarkably clean and detailed impression which are seldom encountered, all
wonderfully contrasted by beautiful deep red grid postmarks, extremely
fine; a most desirable and eye-appealing pair; 1994 PSE and 1999 PF
certificates; ex-Grunin, Jennings.
#36b, 12c Black, plate III, incredibly intense
"jet" black color and impression, rather well centered, full o.g., very
fine and striking; 1993 PF certificate.
#37, 24c Gray lilac, an incredibly fresh and
choice mint single, possessing gorgeous intense color in a much deeper
shade than usual, plus its impression is well incised on unusually bright
and crisp paper, well centered within large margins, full clean o.g. that
is relatively lightly hinged, extremely fine; a rare stamp that is most
appealing in this brilliant mint state; 2001 PF certificate.
#37, 24c Gray lilac, quite well centered for this
