#424a, 1c Green, perforated 12 x 10,
exceptionally well centered, deep rich color, tied to small piece of post
card by complete "Washington, D.C./Jan 8, 1914" machine postmark, piece has
vertical folds on either side of stamp but not affecting it in any way, a
very fine and choice example of this rare compound perforation variety
which, according to Johl, only approximately 20 are thought to exist; the
date on this piece is most intriguing, as the earliest known usage of the
normal perf. 10 variety is October 21, 1914, which this usage predates by
nine months, this disparity deserves further study and research; 1955 APS
certificate.(Image)
