#7, 1862 96c Gray, unwatermarked, unused, quite
fresh, typical centering for these notoriously difficult first issues,
regummed, partially reperforated, fine appearance; 2000 BPA certificate
(S.G. #7, £3,500).
#33, 1880 "10 cents." on 12c Blue, unused, much
better centering than usual, attractive color, regummed, very fine for
this; 2000 BPA certificate (S.G. #25; £700).
#33, 1897 3a on 5a Green, large "prir" surcharge,
deep color, well centered, with Reykjavik c.d.s. leaving surcharge clear,
very fine.
#140-43, 1924-30 "Kr. 10" surcharges on 50a to
5Kr cplt.,the set of four mint, fresh, o.g., fine-very fine.
#A1, 1852 1/2a White "Scinde Dawk", crisp
embossing with all the detail prominently standing out, large to enormous
margins, light dotted cancel, tiny vertical crease in margin at bottom,
otherwise very fine (S.G. #S1; £800).
#A3, 1852 1/2a Red "Scinde Dawk", embossed on red
wafer, a magnificent example of this fragile stamp in a remarkable
state of preservation, with the wax impression showing the complete detail
of the embossed design, which is further highlighted by its vibrant color,
tied to piece by dotted cancellation, completely free of the of the
cracks that exist on nearly all examples, extremely fine; certainly
one of the finest known examples of this very rare stamp; 1967 RPS
certificate (S.G. #S3; £8,000).
#1, 1854 1/2a Red, the vermilion shade of this
classic stamp that is only found on toned paper, unused, large margins all
around, very fine (S.G. #1; £800).
#1 var., 1854 1/2a Deep red, the deep vermilion
printing on white paper, unused, without gum as prepared, vivid color,
large even margins, fresh, trace of thinning at bottom, otherwise very fine
(S.G. #1a; £1,200).
S.G. #18, 1854 4a Blue and pale red, 1st Printing,
Head Die I, Frame Die I, a horizontal pair, head slightly misplaced to
right, typical color on paper which has not been treated and thereby
displays characteristic natural color of having been affixed to a letter
from the Indian sub-continent, neat diamond of dots cancel, full to large
margins all around except very close at bottom of right stamp, tiny age
speck in margin to left of right hand stamp, still quite fine and very
scarce (Scott #6).
#19C, 1860-64 8p Lilac on bluish, pristine mint
pair, deep color heightened by the distinct blueing of the paper, well
centered, o.g., very fine (S.G. #51; £400+).
#76, 1902-09 25R Ultramarine and orange brown, a
gorgeous mint example, radiant colors, well centered, o.g., very fine (S.G.
#147; £750).
#O13, 1866 4a Violet official, with Ty. O4
overprint, an exceptional unused example of this rarity, being in a quality
that is almost impossible to find, as it is free of all of the faults which
plague these glazed paper officials, with essentially no trace of surface
rubbing so typical of these, strong fresh color, well centered,
accompanying certificate states part o.g. although we find only traces of
o.g., very fine; certainly one of the finest available examples;
1987 BPA certificate (S.G. #O17; £3,000).
#O13, 1866 4a Violet official, with Ty. O3
overprint in green, well centered, minor surface rubbing which is endemic
to theses surface glazed paper issues, still with strong rich color, o.g.,
h.r., faint crease, very fine appearance; above average quality for this
rare stamp (S.G. #O17; £3,000).
#O14, 1866 Violet official, Ty. O4 overprint in
green, unused, incredibly fresh, with intense vivid color on pristine
unblemished paper which is most unusual on this glazed surface paper,
centered to right, fine for this rare and difficult stamp (S.G. #O18;
£3,750).
#10a, 1885 4a Green, with "PUTTIALLA STATE" overprint
doubled, one in black and one in red, each overprint place directly on
top of one another (red on top), well centered, quite fresh, o.g., h.r.,
certificate states "diagonal crease" which is simply a faint natural gum
bend, very fine; 2000 BPA certificate (S.G. #9a; £180).
#5, 1893 4a Black on rose, with blue control
handstamp, without gum as issued, a wonderful unused example, with
unusually large margins all around, brightly colored paper, virtually
flawless except for negligible paper irregularity associated with this
delicate native paper, extremely fine; an impressive example of this
rarity; clear 1985 RPS certificate (S.G. #7; £1,300).
#16e, 1859 80c olive yellow, thick "0" in "80", a
fabulous mint example, deep rich color on bright white paper, exceptionally
fresh, full to large margins, o.g., lightly hinged, extremely fine gem;
1986 Enzo Diena certificate; ex-Alphonse (Sassone #18d).
#1, 1852 1q Black, intense color, usual irregular
margins to just touched showing portion of adjoining stamp at top, light
corner crease, tied by 1856 Firenze postmark to "Gazetta Medica Italia"
wrapper band, Pisa receiver on reverse, a rare single franking usage
(Sassone #1).
#2a, 1851-52 1s Orange on grayish, gorgeous color
and lovely impression on paper which has retained its striking color, the
large to enormous margins all around are quite exceptional since these
stamps were so closely spaced as to hardly ever yield four-margined
examples, neatly cancelled by 1855 Livorno c.d.s., minute natural foreign
particle in paper which is only visible on reverse, extremely fine (Sassone
#2e).
#2, 1851-52 2s Scarlet on bluish paper, a
marvelous example of this rarity, vivid color whose intensity is further
brought out by the striking blueing in the paper, full to large margins,
cancelled by "P.D./Firenze" c.d.s., extremely fine; 1987 Enzo Diena
