(18.6) bearing 2d. blue RJ-RL/SK-SL (S.G. Spec. DS5) irregular block of
five, large margins nearly all round showing portion of adjoining stamp,
very close at lower left corner of SK, tied by red Maltese Crosses, showing
departure and arrival c.d.s. on reverse, the stamps have been lifted and
repaired, as well as a filing crease across top row ironed out and another
strengthened on the cover, nevertheless a remarkable ten pence rate cover

1841 Mulready 1d. envelope A164 (forme 4) from
Pontypool to Clydwch, Iron Works, Abergavenny bearing 1d. red-brown
Plate 8 HC and 2d. blue Plate 1 HL (S.G. Spec. AS47, DS5), the former
with large even margins and the latter with large margins on three sides
but just cut into at top, cancelled by Maltese Crosses in black, showing
circular undated origin d.s. and arrival c.d.s. on reverse, sender has
written inside that he is enclosing a few sample catalogues, hence the four
pence rate for letters over 1 ounce and over 2 ounces, which also explains
why there is some crumpling and vertical creases none of which affect the
stamps, a very fine and unique uprated franking of the utmost appeal; and
one of the most important domestic Mulready covers, of the highest
exhibition calibre, illustrated on the front cover of The G.B.
Journal, Vol. IX, No. 4 (July, 1971) in which its authenticity had been
confirmed by the late W.E. Lea, and exhibited in the Court of Honour,
London 1990 and Hong Kong 1994; 1992 Holcombe certificate.(Image)
