left pair is incredibly large and well balanced), deep luxuriant color and
strong impression, full o.g., with the end stamps being particularly
lightly hinged, trivial wrinkle at top of left stamp, extremely fine;
actually a very scarce mint multiple, particularly so choice;

large and even margins all around, bright shade and a strong impression,

crease which is not mentioned on accompanying certificate, otherwise an
extremely fine and exceedingly handsome classic mint multiple; 1963 PF

#7, 1c Blue, Ty. II, positions
31-32/41-42/51-52L2, full left margin partial imprint and plate "No. 2."
block of six, being the largest known imprint and plate number multiple
known from the left pane, featuring an enormous sheet margin at left,
plus very large margins at top (showing portions of adjoining stamps) and
at right, bottom two stamps separated from pane irregularly cutting into
design, incredibly intense color and a prooflike impression on bright
paper, full o.g., lightly hinged, couple of relatively mild creases, none
of which affect the impressive overall appearance of this important One
Cent Blue plate number multiple; in addition to being the largest imprint
and plate number multiple known from the left pane, it is the third largest
plate number multiple from either pane for a Ty. II stamp, with only two
full imprint and plate number blocks of eight recorded (both from the right
pane) and these catalog $36,000.00 each; illustrated both in Ashbrook (page
198) and Neinken (page 180) when it was part of an irregular block of
seventeen; Chapin census #2; ex-Cipolla and Chapin.(Image)

#7, 1c Blue, Ty. II,
positions 39-40/49-50/59-60/69-70R2, the spectacular unused right sheet
margin full imprint and plate "No. 2." block of eight, ample to mostly
large margins all around, rich luxuriant color and a strong detailed
impression on bright paper, the multiple does have some small faults
including thin spots and minor ink staining on positions 59-60, however
these do not materially affect its impressive overall appearance, nor are
they of importance considering that this is one of only two such intact
plate blocks in existence; certainly among the most important plate blocks
in United States philately, not only because of its extreme rarity, but it
is also the first Scott number for which a plate number block is
possible; the other known plate block (ex-Wampler) is also unused and
has numerous overall small flaws, nevertheless when it was sold by this
firm in April 1998 it attracted spirited bidding resulting in a record
realization of $35,750.00 (including premium - the basis for the current
Scott evaluation), the Wampler example sold to an important private
collector and will presumably not be available for the foreseeable future;
Chapin census #3; 1958 PF certificate; ex-Chapin.(Image)

#7, 1c Blue, Ty. II, position 61L2, very scarce

imprint (a perfect companion piece to the imprint and plate block of six

purposes), mostly large to huge margins, just in at bottom, intense color
and impression, light town c.d.s., small thin spot, very fine appearance;

#7, 9, 1c Blue, Ty. II and IV combination pair,
positions 4/14R1L, position 4R1L being the sole position on Plate 1 Late
that was not recut, an extraordinary quality vertical pair boasting
large to enormous margins, including a sizable sheet margin on the rare
position 4R1L, deep rich color and impression on bright paper, neatly and
unobtrusively postmarked, top stamp with trivial natural paper wrinkle of
no significance, extremely fine; a gem combination pair of considerable
rarity, whose catalog value does not accurately reflect its true value, as
evidenced by a $3,575.00 realization (including premium) for a similarly
choice pair (positions 3-4R1L) sold in our October 2001 auction of the
William S. Floyd collection; accompanied by a 1954 letter from Stanley B.
Ashbrook which plates the pair and confirms its condition;

#8, 1c Blue, Ty. III, position 99R2, a fabulous
quality used example of this rare and highly desirable stamp, being
incredibly well margined for any One Cent Blue imperforate, but especially
so on such an elusive type and position, with extra-large to huge margins
all around, rich luxuriant color in a deep shade, plus its impression is
especially strong which clearly shows enormously wide breaks in both the
top and bottom labels, all wonderfully complemented by neat strikes of a
blue town c.d.s., extremely fine; a striking gem example of the
rare Type III from position 99R2, which produced the finest and most
distinctive example of this type; 1982 PF certificate; ex-Newbury
(where it was described as a "superb rarity") and Chapin.(Image)

#8, 1c Blue, Ty. III, an impressive used example
of this rare stamp, possessing extravagantly wide and wonderfully well
balanced margins all around, further contributing to this stamp's
exceptional overall eye appeal is its strikingly intense color and
impression, plus its Ty. III design characteristics are easily
identifiable, with an enormous break in the top label and a large break at
bottom, bold central strike of a town c.d.s., extremely fine gem; very few
used #8's exist in this premium condition; 1979 PF certificate;

trivial corner crease at top left (entirely in margin) not even mentioned
on the accompanying certificate, extremely fine; terribly undercataloged as
a pair (only a $250.00 premium over two singles), especially when one
considers how few positions on the plate can produce two adjoining Ty. III
stamps; clear 1964 PF certificate; ex-Chapin.(Image)

rare combination, left stamp being the Ty. III with a large break at top

plumes at bottom, extravagantly large and particularly well balanced
margins all around, deep rich plate 4 color and an outstanding impression
on bright paper, very light town c.d.s., small natural inclusion in center,
extremely fine; a gem example of a One Cent Blue imperforate pair
combining Types III and Ic, which exists only in two places on the
plate; a highly important piece for the One Cent Blue specialist or
exhibitor; listed but unpriced in Scott; signed and plated on reverse by

#8A, 1c Blue, Ty. IIIa, a magnificent quality
mint example of a stamp that is missing from even the most advanced
collections of mint United States stamps, being one of the few premium
quality One Cent Blue Ty. IIIa imperforates still retaining its original
gum, possessing large margins all around, with strikingly intense color
in a deep shade, plus its impression is truly prooflike on immaculately
white paper, full pristine o.g. that has been only lightly hinged,
extremely fine in every regard; the rarity of this stamp in this
extraordinary condition cannot be overstated, in fact, this is only the
second original gum premium quality example we have seen in years (the
other being the ex-Golin copy); 1986 and 1992 PF certificates;

of four at top, both blocks quite well margined (bottom block just in at
bottom left), strong rich color and impressions, full o.g., each block with
a single crease and very negligible toning specks, bottom block with a
small cut between the two bottom stamps, overall of very fine and
impressive appearance; an important classic plate number multiple, as only
