exceptionally rare used card to Trinidad with light blue "Grenada/OC 31 83"
c.d.s. with index letter "A", small Trinidad receiving c.d.s. on the front,
overall toning typical of these cards and creasing at top causing some

1891 OHMS official cover with clear strike of
"Grenada/22 OC 91/Official Paid" c.d,s,, endorsed "Bot(anical)
Gardens/Grenada", the government agency using the free franking and signed
C.H. Collymore, all required for proper official use, sent to the Royal
Gardens in Kew, England with postal backstamp of that town and attractive
double circle dated cachet of the Royal Gardens on the front, slight edge
wrinkles, otherwise very fine; this is the earliest known usage of the
"Official Paid" c.d.s.(Image)
S.G. #1-19, 1861-81 Chalon Head exhibition collection balance,
consisting of 150 mint and used in singles and multiples, mounted on
exhibition pages, this consists of just the 1p Green and 6p Rose to
vermilion values printed by Perkins, Bacon and Co. over a twenty year
period, largely used in the earlier issues including a horizontal pair of
the 1p Bluish green first issue used on Carriacou with very scarce "F"
cancel, better parish cancels are found throughout, many used multiples are
also present with numerous pairs of both values, three used strips of four
and a strip of five of the 1p value and two used strips of four of the 6p,
mint and unused examples are mostly confined to singles but the 1p has
several mint pairs and blocks of four, plus a well centered block of nine
of S.G. #2, finally there are four small pieces with diagonally bisected 1p
Green values, three in pairs with singles or pairs of the un-bisected
stamp, this was authorized because some rates, including newspaper rates,
required a 1/2p value, 1/2p values were not issued for Grenada until April
of 1881, overall condition is quite nice for these, centering is variable
because of the extremely close spacing in the plates and the rather crude
perforating machines being used, o.g. is usually present on multiples and
some singles, an attractive and fine-very fine collection of these elusive
and often hard to identify stamps (Scott #1-7).

S.G. #13/26 1875-81 Surcharged undenominated small Chalon Head
collection, balance of the exhibition collection with over 140 mint and
used stamps in singles and multiples, these are often referred to as
surcharged revenue stamps because so many revenues were made with this
design, but actually this is an example of the frugality of the Grenada
officials, who found it much more economical to use one design in various
colors overprinted for postage or revenue as the need arose, because of the
typeset overprint there are numerous varieties and errors which are well
represented in this collection including missing "P" in Postage, inverted
"S" in various words, and varying punctuation mark anomalies, some values
well represented with mint including blocks as large as blocks of 30, some
values with imperforates in pairs or blocks of four, two different
watermarks are found for some issues and a shade study of the 2 1/2p Rose
lake to claret shades is present, largely o.g. or used, fine-very fine
(Scott #8-13).

S.G. #27/47, 1883-91 Fabulous Provisional Surcharge collection
exhibition balance of over 350 mint and used stamps in singles and
multiples, these issues are some of the most interesting and challenging of
the stamps of Grenada, Mr. Walker considered these of the greatest
importance in documenting the stamps of this country and his collection
strongly shows this belief, Grenada frequently experienced shortages of
certain values, particularly the 1/2p and 1p, to fill the void they
surcharged orange small "Chalon Head" revenues with surcharges indicating
there new denomination and designating them for postage, not counting the
extremely rare manuscript issues, a total of three different 1/2p (two
intended for bisecting), six different 1p (one on 8p Tete-beche issue), two
different 4p and a 2 1/2p surcharge (also on the 8p) were issued in the
period of about eight or nine years, the Walker collection documented each
of these issues, present in this balance are a large number of used singles
and multiples up to a block of fifteen, mint examples are not as
comprehensive but many are shown in multiples to as large as a block of 30
of S.G. #38, throughout are numerous overprint errors and varieties,
including inverted and double overprints, in addition, the basic revenue
stamps had an original overprint for revenue service, which also exhibits
varieties and errors, finally there are numerous cancels, some of which are
the scarce parish letter cancels including rare examples of "E" (St.
David's Parish), "F" (Carriacou) and "G" (also St. David's Parish at this
period), all collected extensively for each issue to show that the shortage
was not just at the General Post Office in St. George's, but in the
outlying post offices as well, there is far too much to detail every
desirable item here, but this is a fascinating study in attractive and nice
condition for the way these stamps are normally found and examination is a
must to really appreciate the scope of this collection, total Stanley
Gibbons value is £20,000 (Scott #14/38).

the De La Rue surface printed issues on exhibition pages, over 500 stamps
in singles and multiples, starting with the 1883 Tete-beche issue that

their nature many multiples are found in these including full mint sheets
of 60 of the 1/2p Dull green, 4p Greyish slate and later 1p Carmine (S.G.

issues include sets mint and used complete for the period plus selected
mint multiples from blocks of four up to blocks of 30, also includes some

S.G. #1/88 1858-1911 Substantial balance accumulation of over 600
mint and used including multiples, housed on stock pages and a few album
pages, includes many of the early issues starting with three 1p Rose red
pairs of Great Britain with "A15" cancels (S.G. "Z1) and goes to the
1906-11 Badge of the Colony issue, significant catalog value is found in
the early engraved 1p and 6p issues of Perkins, Bacon and Co. with a nice
range of the different printings starting with the unwatermarked first
issue, multiples include several used strips of five of the 1p Green
values, we also note better provisional surcharged issues including
unsevered pairs of the "Postage" overprinted stamps intended to be bisected
for 1/2p values (two S.G. #28a and four #29a), plus later provisional
surcharges including a used block of eight of S.G. #43, later issues are
represented by various mint and used with better high values, multiples are
present up to full sheets of 60 including a sheet of the 6p Badge of the
Colony, there are a few scattered "Specimen" overprints, varieties are
found throughout, and numerous cancels with some quite scarce markings are
present, often not reflected in the catalog value, we note three album
pages with the letter cancellations of the parish district post offices,
including one page devoted to the 1861 period with first issue stamps and
six different letters (lacking only "G"), the next page has these same
cancels when the inland post was re-opened in 1872 with all seven letters
including the rare "G" cancel, all are very clear cancels which are not
normal for these; this is an accumulation that a specialist in this country
would accumulate in over 30 years of collecting, interesting items are
found throughout, later mint can be expected to have o.g., some n.h., and
even some of the early issues have o.g. as well, condition varies as would
be expected, but a large portion are fine-very fine for the period and the
issues; careful examination will prove worthwhile; total catalog value is
over £27,000.00 (Scott #1/78).
