issued, four large margins, bright rich color and a clean impression,
extremely fine; 2005 PSE certificate (VF-XF 85).
#4, 10c Black reproduction, without gum as
issued, large margins all around, strong color and a crisp impression,
extremely fine; a select quality example; 2005 PSE certificate (VF-XF
85).
#7, 1c Blue, Ty. II, an highly select mint
example of this surprisingly difficult stamp to find in premium quality,
possessing an exceptional overall freshness, with deep luxuriant color and
a vivid impression on bright paper, four extraordinarily large and
perfectly balanced margins, unusually fresh and clean original gum that has
been lightly hinged only once, extremely fine; a gem original gum example;
2003 PSE certificate (XF 90).
#9, 1c Blue, Ty. IV, a phenomenal quality mint
example, being in a truly remarkable state of preservation for a stamp of
this vintage, possessing intensely rich color and razor-sharp impression on
fresh crisp paper, extraordinarily large margins all around, its reverse is
equally impressive, sporting full pristine original gum that has been only
very lightly hinged, extremely fine in every regard; 1996 PF certificate
and a 2005 PSE certificate (XF-Superb 95).
#11, 3c Brownish carmine, pristine mint single,
possessing beautiful rich color in the distinctive brownish carmine shade,
crisp impression, four full to mostly large margins, o.g., never
hinged, extremely fine; 1999 PF certificate and a 2005 PSE certificate
(VF-XF 85).
#18, 1c Blue, Ty. I, a desirable mint example of
this always difficult stamp, possessing far better centering than normally
encountered on this tightly spaced stamp, plus its color is sumptuously
rich and its impression well incised, full fresh original gum that has been
very lightly hinged, extremely fine; a rare stamp to find in this premium
quality; 1999 PF certificate and a 2005 PSE certificate (VF-XF 85).
#20, 1c Blue, Ty. II, a most impressive mint
example of this elusive stamp, being exceedingly well centered within
extravagantly wide margins for this typically narrowly spaced stamp, strong
rich color and a highly detailed impression on fresh white paper, full
original gum, relatively lightly hinged, extremely fine; an especially
difficult stamp to find in this outstanding condition; 1989 PF certificate,
as well as 1989 and 2005 PSE certificates (XF 90).
#22, 1c Blue, Ty. IIIa, well centered within
unusually large margins, rich color and a strong impression, full o.g.,
lightly hinged, a very fine example of this scarce mint stamp; 1994 PF and
2005 PSE certificates.
#25, 3c Rose, Ty. I, an incredibly fresh mint
example of this notoriously difficult stamp, featuring strikingly intense
color and impression, better centering than usually encountered, full o.g.,
never hinged, very fine; one of the few certified never hinged
examples of the 1857 Three Cent Type I in existence; 1998 PF
certificate
#26, 3c Dull red, Ty. II, well centered, fresh
color, pristine o.g., never hinged, very fine; 2003 and 2005 PSE
certificates (F-VF 75).
#26 var., 3c Claret, pristine mint single,
possessing striking prooflike color in the scarce claret shade, as well as
an especially vivid impression, uncharacteristically well centered, full
o.g., lightly hinged, choice very fine; 1998 PF and 2005 PSE certificates
(VF 80).
#29, 5c Brown, Ty. I, a very rare mint example
that is uncommonly well centered and margined, lovely rich color and an
excellent clarity of impression, full clean original gum, lightly hinged,
very fine and choice; the 1859 Five Cent Brown Type I is one of the most
underrated 19th century stamps to find with original gum, as it is missing
from even the most advanced collections of mint United States stamps; 1994
and 2004 PF certificates, and a 2005 PSE certificate.
#30, 5c Orange brown, Ty. II, well centered
within uncharacteristically large margins, bright rich color and a crisp
detailed impression, full fresh o.g., lightly hinged, very fine; 2001 PF
certificate and a 2005 PSE certificate (VF 80).
#30A, 5c Brown, Ty. II, rather well centered
within exceptionally large margins, strong rich color and a well incised
impression, o.g., a very fine example of this scarce mint stamp; 1998 PF
certificate.
#31, 10c Green, Ty. I, an incredibly rare mint
single, bright fresh color and a sharp impression, centered to the top,
full o.g., faint diagonal crease in the bottom left margin, otherwise fine;
original gum examples of this stamp are almost never offered in any
condition; 2000 PF certificate.
#34, 10c Green, Ty. IV, position 74L1, an
immensely rare mint example, being one of only a tiny number of certified
copies in existence, deeply rich color and an uncommonly strong impression,
centered to the right, part o.g., very faint stains at bottom which are
inconsequential, fine appearance; the rarity of the 1857 Ten Cent Type IV
with any portion of original gum cannot be overstated, as this in only
the second example we have ever offered in our auctions (and the other
had only small part o.g.), despite us having offered many of the most
important mint United States collections to have come on the market in the
last ten years; 1956 and 2000 PF certificates.
#35, 10c Green, Ty. V, well centered within very
wide margins, rich bright color and a strong impression, o.g., choice very
fine; 2000 PF certificate and a 2005 PSE certificate (VF 80).
#36, 12c Black, plate I, far better centering
than normally encountered on this tightly spaced stamp, attractive color,
full o.g., lightly hinged, extremely fine for this; unlike the more
frequently offered Twelve Cent Plate 3 stamp, the Plate 1 stamp is rarely
found both this well centered and still retaining its original gum; 1995 PF
certificate, as well as 1995 and 2005 PSE certificates (VF 80).
#37, 24c Gray lilac, uncommonly well centered
within large margins, strong color and impression, accompanied by two
conflicting certificates regarding the gum, the PF stating "o.g.,
previously hinged", while the PSE states "regummed", in our opinion the
stamp has original gum that has been redistributed, extremely fine; 2000 PF
certificate and a 2005 PSE certificate (VF 80); cataloged as no gum.
#38, 30c Orange, a highly desirable mint example
of this scarce stamp, possessing extraordinarily large margins for this
notoriously difficult value, and being quite well centered within them,
brilliant intensely rich color and a sharp detailed impression, full o.g.,
lightly hinged, extremely fine; 1996 PF certificate and a 2005 PSE
