paper, bright color with even margins, measuring 29x25mm, lovely
immaculate condition, extremely fine; a very rare proof that is probably

#643P1a, 2c Vermont Sesquicentennial, large die proof
on wove paper, die sunk on full size card measuring 202x146mm, an
approved proof dated June 23, 1927 and signed by Harry S. New, Postmaster
General, exceptionally clean and attractive die proof, trivial wrinkle at
bottom of card, very fine and choice; it is quite likely that this die
proof exists only on wove paper; C.A. Huston, designer; L.S. Schofield,
vignette engraver; control number 69971 (1927).

on wove paper, die sunk on full size card measuring 202x153mm, the
specially prepared proof for President Franklin D. Roosevelt, pristine,

on wove paper, measuring 26x28mm, large balanced margins, rich color
and attractive, extremely fine; a very rare proof; C.A. Huston, designer;

#644-E1, 2c Burgoyne, designer's model consisting
of a photo of a wash drawing of an unaccepted design, mounted on thick gray
card, all of the elements are very similar to the design that was adopted
only they are reduced to the size of the 2c White Plains issue, ink
approval inscription and pencil "May 7, 1927", but not signed by the
Postmaster General, complete with paper overleaf, very fine; a unique
original model of an unadopted design; C.A. Huston, designer.
#644P1a, 2c Burgoyne, large die proof on wove
paper, die sunk on full size card measuring 202x153mm, a choice
approved proof dated July 11, 1927 and signed by Harry S. New, Postmaster
General, crisp and fresh, extremely fine; it is quite probable that large
die proofs of this issue only come on wove paper; C.A. Huston, designer;
John Eissler, vignette engraver; control number 71830 (1927).
#644P1a var., 2c Burgoyne, large die proof on wove
paper, measuring 82x126mm being a large portion of the die area with
untrimmed overage at top and bottom, the special proof prepared for H.M.
Southgate, characterized by not being card mounted and the control
numbers applied to the front in the untrimmed non-die portion, fresh and
very fine; a rare large die proof being the only one issued in this
format; C.A. Huston, designer; L.S. Schofield, vignette engraver;

approved proof dated May 16, 1928 and signed by Harry S. New, Postmaster
General, clean and attractive, choice very fine; it is quite probable that
large die proofs of this issue only come on wove paper; C.A. Huston,

paper, large even margins, measuring 25x28mm, attractive bright color,
extremely fine; a very rare proof that is probably rarer than its large die
proof counterpart; C.A. Huston, designer; E.J. Hein & L.S. Schofield,
vignette engravers.
#646-E, 2c "Molly Pitcher", essay on wove paper,
impression of the overprint on stamp size piece measuring 23x26mm, plus
attractive example of #554P3, 2c Carmine, plate proof on wove of the design
that would go with this overprint to make the Molly Pitcher
commemorative, from the Franklin D. Roosevelt Collection and offered
in the same way it was in that collection, both are fresh and attractive,
the 2c with nice even margins all around and intense deep color, extremely
fine; the 2c plate proof is listed but unpriced in Scott and certainly rare
by itself, as they are seldom encountered; C.A. Huston, designer; M.W.

#649P1a-50P1a, 2c-5c Aeronautics, large die proofs on
wove paper, die sunk on full size cards measuring 202x152mm, a nicely
matched set of approved proofs dated December 5, 1928 and each signed by
Harry S. New, Postmaster General, this being the set presented to
President Calvin Coolidge, each has a couple of very faint toning spots
in the India, well away from the design, very fine; Harry New presented to
President Coolidge a set of die proofs for all the stamps that were issued
during the Harding-Coolidge presidencies, this set was part of that
presentation; a rare and desirable set of air post related proofs; despite
the premium assigned to large die proofs on India, it is our opinion that
this set only comes on wove paper, this and the set offered in the next lot
were both previously described in the auction catalogs when Mr. Livingston
purchased them as being on India, with the $2,500.00 catalog value quoted
and he paid that full catalog for each, however both sets are on wove and
it is doubtful that they even exist on India paper; C.A. Huston & A.R.
