#24zc, 9p Violet, select JBC monogram
single from Plate 2 (lower), extraordinarily bright and fresh,
exceptionally well centered, o.g., l.h., very fine and exceedingly choice;
particularly rare and desirable in this premium condition (A$3,000).
#30, 1/- Emerald, premium quality right
sheet-margin block of four, wonderfully bright and fresh, excellent
centering, all four stamps n.h. (hinged in sheet selvage only), very fine;
choice never hinged blocks such as this have become few and far between, as
most have been broken to meet collector demand for n.h. singles
(A$3,000+).
#30C, 1/- Blue green Die II, mint block of four,
rich distinctive color, nicely centered, o.g., top pair l.h., bottom pair
n.h., couple of slightly nibbed perforations, very fine (A$1,800+).
#30C var., 1/- Blue green, without watermark, a
previously unrecorded used example which has no obvious identifiable
watermark, while almost all First Watermark issues have strong watermarks
showing, this copy has no such trace of any watermark, light strike of
March 1915 registered postmark, color somewhat faded, otherwise very fine;
believed to be the unique example of this error, which has yet to be
listed in the ACSC, but according to their editors it will be listed in
a future edition; 1999 Ceremuga certificate.
#30a, 1/- Emerald, watermark inverted, nicely
centered, fresh color, o.g. which is just slightly disturbed, very fine;
mint examples with the watermark inverted are much more elusive than used
or c.t.o. examples (A$2,000).
#30z, 1/- Emerald, bottom left corner CA
monogram strip of three from Plate 2 (lower), deep luxuriant color,
exceptionally well centered, o.g. which is a bit toned overall (not at all
affecting face), lightly hinged, very fine; 1/- First Watermark issue
monogram multiples are extremely elusive and almost never seen offered, in
fact not one was present in the impressive Sir Gawaine Baillie sale
(A$6,000).
#30a/z, 1/- Emerald, watermark inverted, bottom
left corner margin CA monogram strip of three from Plate 2 (lower),
used with c.t.o "Melbourne/DE 3 14" c.d.s., bright and fresh, o.g., stamps
n.h., l.h. in selvage, fine; any CA monogram piece of the 1/- First
Watermark is rare, this being particularly unusual as a c.t.o. piece (as
mint A$6,000).
#30za, 1/- Emerald, scarce CA monogram
single from Plate 2 (lower), quite fresh, strong color, o.g., very fine
and scarce (A$2,000).
#30Czb, 1/- Blue green, impressive bottom right
corner JBC monogram strip of three from Plate 2 (lower), distinctive
Blue green color on fresh paper, quite well centered, o.g., l.h., very
fine; a rare and terribly undercataloged monogram multiple (A$6,000).
#30zc, 1/- Emerald, bottom margin JBC monogram
block of four from Plate 2, deep shade, o.g., fine and rare
(A$2,000+).
#30Czc, 1/- Blue green, scarce JBC monogram
single from Plate 2 (lower), fresh distinctive Blue green color, o.g.,
stamp n.h. (hinged in selvage only), nearly very fine (A$2,000).
#30, 1/- Emerald, well centered single, used as
the sole franking on a register cover to Germany, quite likely an
overpayment of the triple overseas U.P.U. rate (3 x 2½p) plus 3p
registration fee, tied by light strike of "Registered/5.NO.13/Sydney"
c.d.s., backstamped Berlin and Rastatt, couple minor edge tears at top, a
very fine usage of a single 1/- franking (A$500).
#35, 2/- Brown, handsome top right corner margin
block of four, with margin at right, deep rich color and impression,
exceptionally well centered throughout, o.g., bottom pair l.h., top pair
n.h., very fine-extremely fine; blocks of this value, particularly in this
premium condition, are seldom seen (A$3,100+).
#35b/cb, 2/- Brown, double perforation, mint
block of four, bottom pair with double perforations on three sides (not
readily apparent at the base), in addition the top left stamp displays an
early state of the "white dog-leg flaw through 'SH' to value circle"
[2L10], o.g., some minor sensible hinge reinforcement of perforations,
fine-very fine; ex-Nelson (A$4,100+).
#35h, 2/- Brown, mint single showing the "white
dog-leg flaw through 'SH' to value circle" variety [2L10], rich color,
o.g., fine (A$800).
#35w, 2/- Brown, pristine block of four, with two
neat "Melbourne/DE 3 13" c.t.o. postmarks, excellent centering, strong
color, o.g., n.h., very fine and choice; collector's set c.t.o. stamps are
rarely seen in multiples such as this; ex-Australia Post archives
(for four singles A$600+).
#30z, 2/- Brown, the highly important bottom left
corner margin CA monogram strip of three from Plate 2 (lower), being
the only CA monogram strip recorded, deep rich color, attractively
centered, o.g., first two stamps n.h., very fine; according to the ACSC
"monogram and no monogram strips of 3 are of great rarity...there are
probably only one each of the CA and JBC monogram strips of 3 mint"; one of
key monogram multiples of the First Watermark issue (A$35,000).
#35zc, 2/- Brown, an exceptional quality JBC
monogram single from Plate 2, extraordinarily fresh and crisp, strong
rich color, well centered, o.g., lightly hinged, very fine and choice;
quite likely the finest quality JBC monogram single available among the
very few that exist (A$12,500).
#35, 2/- Brown, single example tied to large
piece of parcel, along with three 1p, one 6p and three 1/- Kangaroos by
"Railway Station/FE 19 14/Sydney c.d.s. postmarks, with printed address to
Frankfurt (Germany), couple of light vertical folds, one of which passes
through a 1p and 1/-, fine and striking piece; very few usages of the 2/-
First Watermark have survived on piece or cover, in fact apart from the
FDC, the only other "entire" recorded with a 2/- is a small parcel tag (for
full cover A$2,000).
#42, 5/- Grey and chrome, highly select mint
single, exceedingly well centered and margined, brilliantly fresh colors,
