#261, $1.00 Black, Ty. I, strong color and
impression, o.g., lightly hinged, very fine; 1990 PF certificate.
#261, $1.00 Black, Ty. I, deep rich color on
fresh paper, well centered and margined, slightly disturbed o.g., very
fine; clear 1985 PF certificate and a 2006 PF certificate.
#261, $1.00 Black, Ty. I, used, excellent
centering, rich fresh color and a crisp impression on clean white paper,
very light cancel which is quite uncharacteristic of this stamp, very fine;
2002 PF certificate.
#261A, $1.00 Black, Ty. II, an exciting mint
example of this rare and difficult Bureau issue, being in a condition
unlike the vast majority one encounters, fabulously bright and fresh, with
intense prooflike color and impression on wonderfully bright paper,
exceptionally well centered within large margins, and equally impressive is
this stamp's reverse, sporting unblemished o.g. that has never been
hinged, extremely fine; as an indication of this stamp's rarity, this
is only the second premium quality never hinged example of Scott #261A we
have offered in our auctions in over ten years; photocopy of a 1992 PF
certificate for a block of four, this being the bottom right stamp, and a
2004 PF certificate as a single; ex-Lewis.
#261A, $1.00 Black, Ty. II, well centered within
exceedingly large margins, deep intense color and impression on pristine
white paper, unusually light cancel, very fine; 2004 APS certificate.
#262, $2.00 Bright blue, an extremely rare "post
office" fresh example of this high value, lovely strong rich color and
prooflike impression on bright white paper, quite well centered, especially
for this notoriously difficult first Bureau issue, pristine o.g., never
hinged, very fine; to exemplify the rarity of this value in never hinged
condition, this is only one of a very few that we have sold in the last
fifteen years; 2001 PSE and 2002 PF certificates
#262, $2.00 Bright blue, an exciting used example
that ranks among the finest, if not being the finest, used Two Dollar
unwatermarked Bureau issues in existence, as this stamp possesses all
of the extraordinary physical characteristics that are missing on other
known used copies, including being incredibly well centered amid very large
margins, its color is deep and luxuriant, while its impression could not be
more detailed on especially bright paper, very light and face-free
cancellation confined to the bottom right (much more desirably postmarked
than the more typically seen heavy registry cancels), extremely fine; a
used gem whose equal we have never seen; 1961 and 1992 PF certificates, as
well as a 2005 PSE certificate (XF 90 - a conservative grade considering
this stamp's impressive overall attributes; SMQ $2,600.00); ex-Engel,
Hinrichs.
#264, 1c Blue, gem top sheet-margin partial
imprint mint single, flawlessly centered within extraordinarily large
margins, gorgeous intense color, immaculate o.g., n.h., extremely fine in
all respects; 2006 PSE certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $325.00).
#264, 1c Blue, extraordinarily well centered
within large margins, rich luxuriant color and and especially crisp
impression, o.g., n.h., an extremely fine gem; 2006 PSE certificate
(XF-Superb 95; SMQ $325.00).
#264, 1c Blue, well centered within
extraordinarily large margins, deep intense color and a prooflike
impression, pristine o.g., n.h., extremely fine; encapsulated PSE
certificate (XF 90 Jumbo; SMQ $95.00 for 90 and $325.00 for 95).
#264, 1c Blue, imprint and plate no. 102 pane of
100, exceptionally bright and fresh, o.g., n.h., fine centering; a very
scarce and seldom offered sheet.
#265, 2c Carmine, Ty. I, gem mint single,
beautiful bright color and a clean impression, very well centered and
margined, pristine o.g., n.h., extremely fine; 1996 PF certificate.
#266, 2c Carmine, Ty. II, "post office" fresh
single, exceptionally well centered and margined, bright fresh color, o.g.,
n.h., extremely fine; 2007 PF certificate.
#267, 2c Carmine, Ty. III, full top margin
imprint and plate no. 216 block of six, brilliantly fresh, well centered,
pristine o.g., n.h., very fine.
#268, 3c Purple, large top sheet-margin partial
imprint single, well centered within wide margins, deep vibrant color and
an intense impression, o.g., n.h., extremely fine; 2002 PSE certificate.
#270, 5c Chocolate, impressive top sheet-margin
single, excellent centering, lovely rich color and a detailed impression,
o.g., n.h., extremely fine; 1986 and 2006 PF certificates (latter grading
XF 90; SMQ $420.00).
#271, 6c Dull brown, a fabulous quality mint
single, precisely centered within large margins, strong rich color and a
crisp impression, full even perforations all around, unblemished o.g.,
n.h., extremely fine gem; a terribly difficult stamp to find in such
outstanding never hinged condition; 2007 PF certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ
$4,050.00); the highest grade yet assigned to this stamp in the PSE
population report.
#272, 8c Violet brown, extraordinarily well
centered within large balanced margins, rich color, o.g., l.h., extremely
fine; 2006 PSE certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $335.00); this is the highest
grade the PSE has assigned to a hinged #272.
#272, 8c Violet brown, an exceptionally handsome
full top margin imprint and plate no. 58 block of six, extra-wide sheet
selvage, incredibly intense rich color and impression, wonderfully well
centered, o.g., barest trace of hinging in top stamps, a very fine and
choice full top plate block; ex-Weisman.
#272a, 8c Violet brown, watermarked "USIR" in
error, a remarkably choice used example of this scarce stamp, showing a
large portion of the "R" of "USIR" watermark, uncommonly fresh and bright,
with rich luxuriant color, large margins all around and well centered
within them, very light and neat target cancel, certainly extremely fine
for this; 1990 and 2001 PF certificates, as well as a 2005 PSE certificate
(VF 80; not listed in SMQ); while this grade may not seem impressive for
most stamps, it is in fact the highest graded example of a #272a in the
PSE population report, being one of three so graded; ex-Saadi.StampAuctionCentral and StampAuctionNetwork® are
