Tristan da Cunha
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
2515 EPH   imageTristan Da Cunha, "Interrogatories and Answers, given by Mr. Samuel Lambert, resident on the Island of Tristan d’Acunha, December 22nd, 1811", an extraordinary document basically being the transcript of an interview with Mr. Lambert with 44 questions asked and answered and signed at the end by "Sam Warren (Captain)" though the main text is written in another (unknown) hand, from the first question "At what time did you land?" ("January 16th, 1811") to the last "Would Negroes be of any service?" ("Yes, about 20 men, women &, children") the questions and answers give a detailed picture of the island’s geography, flora and fauna, weather, living conditions, outside visitors, etc., some splitting along folds but overall in remarkable condition for a nearly 200 year-old document, Very Fine, simply outstanding and an undoubtedly unique look at the early days of Tristan.  ,
