300P1-13P1 |
#300P1-313P1, 1c-$5.00 1902-03 Regular issue, large
die proofs complete, a magnificent matched set of approved large die
proofs each die sunk on full sized cards measuring approximately 143x194mm,
all signed as "Approved" for Bureau production by either Edwin C. Madden,
Third Assistant Postmaster General or J.K. Reeve, Superintendent of the
Stamp Division; this set was obviously once bound in a presentation album,
as each proof has traces of some type of hinge strip at the far left edge
having been removed (occasionally slightly skinning the card), the 1c and
13c proofs have minor flaws in one corner of the mounting card, well away
from the large die impression, overall a wonderfully fresh and clean set
that possesses tremendous eye appeal, very fine; unique as a complete set
of approved large die proofs. (Image) |

300P2a-13P2a |
#300P2a-313P2a, 1c-$5.00 1902-03 Regular issue,
Panama-Pacific small die proofs complete, a handsome set of these
immensely rare proofs, strong colors throughout (50c color slightly
oxidized as usual), couple with characteristic trivial mounting
translucencies, very fine; these proofs were prepared in 1915 for display
at the Panama-Pacific Exposition (hence the moniker "Panama-Pacific" small
die proofs), it is widely believed that only three to five examples of
each proof were prepared, however we are aware of the existence of only
two complete sets, this set from the Brody collection and a complete set
found in the Smithsonian collection; each proof accompanied by a 1985 PF
certificate. (Image) |
