paper, a remarkable high quality example of this difficult stamp, these
large stamps are typically centered into the design and faulty, this copy
has exceptional centering and flaws are limited to a couple tiny thins and
minor mounting stain that shows on the reverse only, a very fine and choice
example of this.
#RS144P4, Jayne, D. & Son, 1c Blue, plate proof on
card, pristine block of four, large clear margins all around, intense
color and impression, extremely fine and impressive.
#RS144b, Jayne, D. & Son, 1c Blue, silk paper,
imperforate, an outstanding mint example, o.g., h.r., large even
margins surround this exceptionally fresh and detailed design, sound in all
respects and an extremely fine gem of a very scarce stamp in imperforate
format; less than a dozen examples in any condition mint or used have been
reported.
#RS144d, Jayne, D. & Son, 1c Blue, watermarked,
imperforate, a premium quality single, possessing four large generous
margins and incredibly fresh with detailed impression, in addition this
example is completely sound, extremely fine.
#RS145P4, Jayne, D. & Co., 2c Black, plate proof on
card, a wonderfully fresh and attractive block of four, large margins
all around, marvelously detailed and all one could ask for from a proof
impression, a perfect mate to the 1c block, extremely fine.
#RS145b, Jayne, D. & Son, 2c Black, silk paper,
imperforate, a wonderfully well margined stamp possessing choice
attractive appearance, this exceptionally rare stamp, of which it is
believed that less than ten examples are known, sports large to
extremely large margins, and the deep black impression is razor sharp, only
a couple of small thin spots and mild toning that only faintly shows to the
front, not detracting from the extremely fine appearance of this very
elusive stamp.
#RS145d, Jayne, D. & Son, 2c Black, watermarked,
imperforate, an extraordinarly choice example of a very elusive
imperforate stamp, full large margins all around, intense black color and
impression, similar to this issue on silk paper there are only about ten
copies known despite the difference in catalog value, and nearly half
of those have faults, this stamp is sound and extremely fine; a highly
desirable example of a rare stamp.
#RS146b, Jayne, D. & Son, 4c Green, silk paper,
imperforate, a most impressive example of a rare stamp in imperforate
format, this stamp possess extra-large to huge margins, showing a small
portion of the sheet margins at bottom and right, lovely deep green color
on bright fresh paper, only a trivial faint thin spot keeps this stamp from
being entirely sound, otherwise extremely fine; a highly desirable example
of a stamp that only about a dozen copies are known.
#RS146c, Jayne, D. & Son, 4c Green, pink paper,
imperforate, a lovely and impeccably fresh example of this very pretty
stamp, the pink colored paper is about as deep and bright as it comes which
attractively complements the deep green color of the printing, margins are
large and full all around, in addition this stamp is entirely sound,
extremely fine and choice condition that is superior to most of the
existing examples.
#RS146d, Jayne, D. & Son, 4c Green, watermarked,
imperforate, attractive four-margin single, deep green color and quite
fresh though a couple of tone flecks are present, small thin, very fine
appearance; despite its relatively modest catalog value, the known examples
are comparable to other imperforates with only twelve to fifteen examples
known.
#RS153a, Kelly, J. B. & Co. 4c Black, an
unusually fresh example of a very scarce stamp, sharp impression on
exceptionally white paper for this old paper variety, three large margins,
just along margin at bottom, small thin spot, very fine appearance for this
exceptionally difficult issue.
#RS153e, Kelly, J.B. & Co., 4c Black, experimental
silk paper, an exceptionally scarce issue with less than ten examples
recorded, this one neatly cut to shape with balanced even margins all
around, sharp prooflike impression, small thin spots, a fine representative
example of this rare stamp.
#RS159b, Kerr, Jas. C., 4c Blue, silk paper, an
exceptionally handsome example of this "long" stamp, very well centered for
this, color is bright on fresh paper, usual light creases, otherwise very
fine.
#RS159d, Kerr, Jas. C., 4c Blue, watermarked, a
choice single with unusually deep color and sharp impression, lacking the
usual creases that are normally found on this, essentially sound with only
the most inconsequential flaws, very fine for this.
#RS160a, Kerr, Jas. C., 6c Black, a more
attractive example of this stamp on old paper than usually found, most are
faulty with stains, this stamp is quite well centered, couple of
unobtrusive edge tears and minor creases, very fine appearance.
#RS163a, Lippman, J. & Bros., 4c Blue, a
lovely mint example of this very scarce stamp, full o.g., h,r., one
of the most attractive aspects of this stamp is its lovely pastel blue
color, reasonably well centered, only a tiny thin keeps this from being
entirely sound, and of little consequence as most are faulty to a much
greater degree, very fine and a highly desirable example of a stamp of
which only a handful are known.
#RS163b, Lippman, J. & Bros., 4c Blue, silk
paper, marvelously choice example of a rare stamp of which there are
less than a dozen examples recorded, this incredible stamp possesses
intense deep color and razor sharp impression on bright fresh paper,
centering is exceptional for this, the only fault is a light vertical
crease which nearly every used example of this issue has, otherwise
extremely fine; this was the best of two examples in the famous Joyce sale
realizing $2,200.00, plus 10% buyer's premium, over eleven years ago; this
is undoubtedly one of the finest, if not the finest, available example of
this medicine stamp rarity; ex-Joyce.
#RS167c. Lyon Mfg. Co., 1c Black, pink paper,
fresh with intense deep pink colored paper, well centered, small thin spot,
otherwise very fine.
#RS173jb, Mansfield & Higbee, 1c Blue, silk paper,
block of four imperforate between, a marvelously well centered example
of this popular variety, very bright and fresh, essentially sound except
for the faintest of small thins at top, choice very fine.
#RS174c, Mansfield, S. & Co., 1c Blue, pink
paper, an impressive jumbo single that is exceptionally well centered
within extra-large to huge margins, neatly surrounded by full even
