Provisional, signed ACM connected, a wonderfully fresh and choice
unused example, deep rich color and a well defined impression on
particularly bright paper, four ample to mostly large margins, very fine; a
stamp that is seldom offered unused, the vast majority of which are found
without gum; 2004 PF certificate.
#10X1, Providence, R.I., 5c Gray black Postmaster
Provisional, gem mint example, being a top left corner sheet margin
single (position 1 from the sheet of twelve), featuring large to huge
margins all around, extraordinarily fresh, crisp impression, full clean
o.g., lightly hinged, extremely fine; 1999 PF certificate.
#10X2, Providence, R.I., 10c Gray black Postmaster
Provisional, handsome top right corner sheet margin example, possessing
four large to huge margins, unusually fresh, full o.g., minor natural
inclusion speck not mentioned on accompanying certificate, extremely fine;
clear 2000 APS certificate.
#1, 5c Red brown, a highly desirable mint
example of this popular classic, being among the very few offered at
auction that is both sound and still retains its original gum, wonderfully
bright and fresh overall, strong rich color and impression, margins range
from close, but clear, at top right to mostly large elsewhere, pristine
full o.g. with just the barest trace of hinging, very fine; a stamp that is
missing in even the most advanced collections of mint United States stamps;
1998 PF certificate.
#2, 10c Black, an extremely rare unused example,
possessing the finest appearance for any unused or mint example we have
ever offered, boasting an incredible overall freshness which belies its
age, outstanding prooflike impression and color on well blued paper,
extraordinarily margined as well, with large to huge margins all around,
trace of original gum which has been slight redistributed, barest
perceptible trace of a vertical crease at right in no way detracting from
this stamp's extraordinary appearance, otherwise extremely fine; 2003 PF
certificate.
#3, 5c Red brown reproduction, without gum as
issued, quite fresh, full to large margins all around, strong rich color
and impression, very fine.
#4, 10c Black reproduction, without gum as
issued, four full to large margins, rich color, trivial scissor cut in
bottom right margin, plus some minor foreign offset marks on reverse, very
fine appearance.
#7, 1c Blue, Ty. II, extraordinarily well
margined all around, with much larger margins than typically encountered,
deep rich color and strong impression, full o.g., very faint trace of light
soiling, still an extremely fine example of this elusive mint stamp; 1986
PF certificate.
#12, 5c Red brown, an incredibly rare and choice
mint example, being one of just a few known examples which still retains
its original gum, featuring large margins all around that are well
clear of the design projections, sumptuously rich color and a deeply etched
impression on bright paper, full original gum which has been relatively
lightly hinged, tiny insignificant corner crease at top right well clear of
design, still extremely fine; a key mint classic rarity of the United
States; 1998 PSE certificate.
#13, 10c Green, Ty. I, a marvelous example of
this immensely rare mint stamp, possessing exceptional physical attributes
lacking on most of the surviving unused or mint examples, including four
large and well balanced margins, gorgeous rich color and an extraordinarily
detailed impression on bright paper, and equally impressive is the fact
that this stamp still retails a large portion of its original gum (among
the very few thus), extremely fine; while this auction firm has had the
privilege of selling some of the most significant collections of United
States stamps to have come on the auction market in the last decade,
virtually none had a mint copy of Scott #13, let alone in this premium
original gum condition; in our opinion, this is one of the finest of the
minute number of mint examples of the 1855 Ten Cent Type I in
existence; 2001 PF certificate.
#14, 10c Green, Ty. II, a brilliantly fresh mint
example, possessing eye-arresting color that is incredibly intense, plus
its impression is equally strong, four full margins, completely free of any
faults which plague most existing mint/unused copies, full clean o.g. that
has been lightly hinged, very fine; a rare mint classic in any condition,
let alone in this sound original gum state of preservation; 1996 PSE and
1997 PF certificates.
#15, 10c Green, Ty. III, an incredibly well
margined mint example, featuring large to mostly huge margins all around,
lovely rich color and impression on bright paper, extraordinarily clean
full o.g. that has been lightly hinged, accompanying certificate calls both
a tiny toned spot at top left and light soiling, both of which while
technically accurate are completely insignificant considering this stamp's
age and exceptional overall physical attributes, as we have encountered few
other mint examples that have been both so well margined and still
retaining its original gum, overall extremely fine; photocopy of a 1977 PF
certificate for a horizontal pair, this being the right stamp, plus a 2001
PF certificate as a single.
#17, 12c Black, rare mint example, with four
ample to mostly large margins, particularly intense color and impression,
full o.g., multiple h.r.'s, nearly very fine; among the very few existing
sound mint copies that still retains its original gum; 1997 APS
certificate.
#18, 1c Blue, Ty. I, quite fresh, distinctive
intense Plate 12 color and impression, nicely centered, full o.g.,
relatively lightly hinged, nearly very fine; 1998 PSE certificate.
#20, 1c Blue, Ty. II, particularly well centered
within uncharacteristically large margins, rich color and impression, full
o.g., relatively lightly hinged, very fine; a choice original gum example
of this scarce and difficult stamp; 1996 PSE certificate.
#22, 1c Blue, Ty. IIIa, a seldom offered mint
example of this scarce type, possessing an uncommon overall freshness and
crispness, rich luxuriant color and a deeply etched impression on bright
paper, very well centered, especially when compared to most other existing
mint copies, even its full o.g. is unusually clean and fresh, lightly
hinged, very fine; choice original gum examples of the perforated One Cent
Type IIIa are terribly challenging to find; 1987 PF certificate.
#23, 1c Blue, Ty. IV, an especially attractive
mint example of a stamp that is rarely found mint, let alone in this
premium condition, being one of the most difficult stamps of the 19th
century to find in any kind of collectable quality, while centered just
slightly to right, this is considerably better centered than usually
encountered, leaving the top and bottom margins well exposed to show the
recutting of the top and bottom labels, strong color, slightly disturbed
o.g. (the presence of any o.g. is a rare occurrence), very fine; a rarity
mint in any condition, as evidenced by the lack of a single mint example in
the majority of the great collections sold in recent years (Zoellner, Golin
and Lyons for example); 1978 APS and 2002 PF certificates;
ex-Lessin.
#24, 1c Blue, Ty. V, pristine mint single,
extraordinarily well centered, sumptuously rich color, pristine o.g.,
never hinged, extremely fine; a "post office" fresh gem; photocopy
of a 1986 PF certificate for a block of eight from which this stamp was
taken.
#25, 3c Rose, Ty. I, a highly desirable mint
example of this notoriously difficult stamp, possessing an overall
freshness and brilliance that is seldom seen on the vast majority of mint
copies, with sumptuously rich color and a well defined impression on
wonderfully bright paper, but even more impressive is this stamp's
essentially perfect centering, which is a virtually unheard of trait on
this typically notoriously poorly centered and tightly spaced stamp,
pristine full o.g. which has been only lightly hinged, an extremely fine
gem; easily among the finest original gum examples of Scott #25 in
existence; 1998 PF certificate.
#26, 3c Dull red, Ty. II, pristine mint single,
deep luxuriant color, quite well centered amid extraordinarily wide margins
which are most uncharacteristic, immaculate o.g., just the barest
