Absolutely a grandfather collector's collection, 1880s to 1950s, written-up the old fashioned style in pen on quadrille pages, all housed in a Rapkin album. There is excellent specialisation on the KGVI particularly the perforations, as well as postal history of the period with colorful frankings all from the same correspondence of the collector's family. Better material includes GB QV used in Gibraltar, KEVII and KGV mint multiples with plate numbers in margins, KGV high values inc. 5/- red and black used, War Tax o/ps differentiated by the two types, coronation issue complete used in plate blocks of four, etc. Among the better perfs of the 1938/51 KGVII issues are the 1 1/2d carmine perf 14 single and wonderful never hinged part sheet of thirty, plus perf 13 1/2 used, the 3d blue perf 13 1/2 mint, the 2/- black and brown perf 13 1/2 mint, used and used on cover front, 5/- black and red perf 13 1/2 mint and used, 5/- perf 13 mint, etc, , etc. Occasional toning as to be expected mainly confined to the usual denominations. A wonderful collection to go through with lots more to discover. Please inspect carefully page for page.
A phenomenal holding of archival and other material, the product of a lifetime’s collecting, with dozens of items including proofs, stamps and postal history. Beginning with a series of 'Gilbert &, Ellice Protectorate' EDVII issues on piece and on cover, inc unusual large special cancels in violet of Butaritari Island and the Union Group, then the Pandanus Pine issues inc. specimen o/ps. followed by a range of mint multiples of KGV all never hinged showing plate numbers in the margins inc. 2 1/2d ultra block of six showing plate 1, the 3d purple on yellow block of four showing plate six, and the 5d and 1/- in corner blocks from plate one. , However the best is the KGV proof material including a wonderful series of die proofs of the colony name and different duty plates from 1911 and 1912, starting with the 3d with no other markings, then the 4d marked '3.May.12-After Hardening', the 1/- with '28.DEC.11-Before Hardening', the 2/- with '3.May.12-After Hardening', the 2/6d with '17.May.12-After Hardening' and another 2/6d marked '7.May.12-After Hardening' with 'after' crossed through and 'before' added in manuscript! Similarly the 5/- (7.May.12) with the 'after' changed to 'before'. , Then there is a KGV key plate proof without denomination or colony name, affixed to card with 'Sept ,20th ,– 120 Leads' written in pen and 'no. 11' added in pencil and very rare as such. This is very desirable material, leading on to 1935 ,Silver Jubilees as well as a special presentation booklet for the UPU of 1947 containing KGVI , definitives. ,Many items here would make an individual lot in its own right, yet we have been asked to offer this intact as received – with no individual items taken out - so that the buyer may build on this to international exhibition status. A great opportunity for a dealer or collector of this BC Pacific Island group. (Image)
Specialised collection on quadrille pages in a loose-leaf album, put together many decades ago, with several 100 mint and used stamps from Alwar through to Wadwhan. There have been many more varieties and types listed since this collection was formed and particular attention should be paid to the Rana Ranjit Singh issues of Barwani, the Shah Jahan Begam issues of Bhopal, we note for example Bhor complete, second and third series of Bijawar complete mint never hinged mostly corner marginal copies, interesting 'dagger' types of Bundi through to the 1947 series complete mint never hinged and a further series complete with an unidentified overprint! Then Bussahir, Charkhari inc. 1897s complete unused, extensive Cochin from first issues with the large 'one puttan', Duttia, Hyderabad fairly comprehensive, Indore virtually complete 1886/1920, lots of Jammu and Kashmir from the first issues circular types onwards which must be investigated further, as there will be scarce items here. Other States represented here include Las Bela, Nandgaon, Nawanagar, ending with over two dozen very attractive postal history items of various Native States. An intriguing and challenging collection with great potential, close inspection definitely worthwhile and a much recommended viewing. (Image)
Mint accumulation from the first years of the ,20th ,century through to early QEII, with more than 2000 stamps, cram-packed with singles and multiples inc. plate number blocks with no excessive duplication. We note types of the 1898 pictorials inc. 5d 'Otira Gorge' and 1/- orange red, 1915/30 KGV defins to 1/-, with some never hinged from this period with lots of multiples of the official overprints, 1935/36 pictorials inc. both dies on the 1d scarlet kiwi through to the 3/- Mount Egmont x2, KGVI defins to 3/- with plate number imprint blocks inc. 2/- and again much never hinged, through to back of the book with lighthouse officials, postage dues, stamp duty types, as well as non Scott listed inc. railway charges, social securities, etc. What is particularly pleasing about this accumulation is the amount of never hinged. There will be sleepers on the varieties of the earlier issues, especially when eventually sorted and categorized. Viewing with time recommended.
A remarkable collection of the overprint settings, housed in 3 Linder albums with diagrams on every page. This specifically studies the different settings of the 1922 Waterlow printings, known as 'London II' from position 1 to position 240, in the sheet, often including mint blocks as well superb used. Occasionally there are attractive plate numbers singles from the sheets. We estimate there are on average 20 stamps per position, i.e. approx 5000 stamps, ranging from the perf 14 1m brown to the 20piastres bright violet (SG#71 - SG#84), as well as the perf 15 x 14 from the 5 piastres again to the 20 piastres (SG#86 - SG#89). There are numerous errors of o/ps such as the doubling of letters, lengthening and shortening of serifs, broken letters, missing accents, added characters to name but a few of the permutations present, on all 3 alphabets. There are many scarce stamps present, for example on books 2 and 3 we notice there are at least ,ten 9 piastres ochre used, SG#82b (cat. £200 each), over 2 dozen 10 piastres, light blue mint SG#83 (cat. £70 each), as well as the 20 piastres bright violet mint SG#84 (cat. £170 each) and also the 20 piastres used with at least 17 SG#84 (cat. £110 each) etc. Certainly on the 60 stamps we have now identified, just in those albums there is alone about £7000 cat. and on the other 4700+ stamps remaining, we estimate at least £5000 per album, i.e. £15.000+ cat, probably £25,000+ overall, without considering any of the varieties. A highly recommended viewing, collection is clearly of exhibition standard, well written-up. There is the distinct probability of many watermark varieties to be found and other varieties that were not part of this study of settings. A lifetime's work and a tremendous opportunity for the specialist, dealer or collector.  , (Image)
Highly specialised collection, written up in pen on vintage Heimdal quadrille pages, starting off with the 1pi blue rouletted issues, then the first London printings including a very scarce first day cover of 16th June 1918, bearing the 3m, 4m (wing margin), 5m and 5 piaster mandate definitives (wing margin), with 'GMI' registration label, sent to Switzerland. Then follows an in-depth study of the 'Palestine' overprints identified by perfs, as well as constant plate varieties which are shown in pen illustrations by the collector, then the OPDA surcharges with the '1/2 m-m' on 2m green and '1/2 Mill.' on 4m red, both used. We could not find any reference to these and we believe they are very good. This is an opportunity to acquire a collector's collection of this challenging area including material that is hardly ever seen on the market today.
