Lots of notable material throughout, including 1871 5kr brick red (#3a) and the 25kr violet used (#6), 1874s and 1888s complete used with particularly superb cds cancels on the high values (#13/17, #22A/35), strong Crown of St. Stephen and Franz Josef defins inc. 1900 series, 1904s and 1913s all to 2kr used, as well as the 1913 first semi-postal series with 2kr used on piece and 5kr used (#B16/17), 1914 2kr used (#B33), etc. The collection continues with a comprehensive showing, mainly mint from the 1920s onwards inc. 1931 zeppelins complete mint never hinged (#C24/C25), 1932 Madonna complete mint (#462/465), 1934 Liszt souvenir sheet mint (#486), 1938 St. Stephen s/s mint never hinged (#528) and most other sheets of the period, through to WWII era with 1945/46 reconstruction series complete in tete-beche pairs mint never hinged, etc, leading on to interesting back of the book with non-Scott listed Western Hungary o/ps and 'porto' handstamps, officials, postage dues, Yugoslavian occupations, Fiume inc. postage dues, etc, etc. A ,nice old time ,collection with some hard to find material, especially in the back of the book, well worth a close inspection.
Accumulation of collections of Iran bought over three decades of buying collections, privately and in auction, he then stripped them down in chronological order to make this fantastic collection housed in 5 substantial volumes. There are thousands of stamps, mint and used, starting off with the lions with more than 30 with of course some reference including color trials and early official reprints, yet with plenty of genuine as well, both perf and imperf. Then Nasser-eddin issues organised by perf with more than 20 of the 1876s, including scarce examples with the background network clear of the perfs, 1879s also organised by the perfs with more than two dozen stamps including many superb copies, followed by the suns highly specialised and again organised by perfs, with scarce items inc. 1882 engraved/litho 25c green mint (#52, cat. $500). Then 1882/84s with 5fr mint (#58), the elusive emergency 5c ultramarine of 1885 used (#59A), lots of 1885/87 &lsquo, officiel&rsquo, surcharges inc. 6c on 5s type I mint (#66), 1889s complete mint (#73/80), 1894s complete mint (#90/100), 1899 ornament handstamps with an excellent range inc. 4k gray mint and used (#132), the 'P.L.Teheran' o/ps, 1903 12ch surcharge mint (#366), 1915 '1333' o/ps complete mint (#543/549), 1919 surcharges complete used (#622/629), etc. right through to the mid-20th ,century. The fifth volume is devoted to back of the book, with a good range of the airpost o/ps on revenues, officials, seldom seen attractive early customs and revenues, etc, through to postal stationery with four unused lion types. This description only skims the surface of this lot. While there will be inevitable reference examples, this is unquestionably one , of the most interesting lots of Persia we have had the pleasure to offer with so much more here to discover. The perforation varieties on the classics alone make this collection stand out, there is the distinct possibility of unique items present. An enjoyable viewing, highly recommended. ,
For those that have been studying the market of this country lately, it comes as no surprise that the imperf classics for the lions from 1870 to 1878 are showing a remarkable increase worldwide, these stamps have always been scarce and for decades under-appreciated, that is now beginning to change rapidly. Here are over 50 examples, of which 20 are unused, the rest used, often superb, including what seems to be some very rare stamps, especially in the third and final issue of 1878 , through to the 1t bronze #40. We cannot make any guarantees for this but there seems to be 1 mint and one used among the dozens of other stamps here. Without these two stamps, the catalogue would still easily run into 5 figures, notwithstanding that there will be reference copies present as to be expected and of course the condition is of course, mixed, covering the gamut including superb to 'beat-up'! We can go no further on this, other than to mention it is highly recommended for any Persian dealer or collector and this could be worth far more than our estimate, please view.
One volume collection of well over 300 stamps mint and used, both singles and in multiple format, ine one volume starting with the 1852 first issues including a dangerous 'Scudo 1' high value tied on piece by cds cancels, then a range of postal history of further imperfs all genuine. With a very attractive 5 baj black on lilac four margins on cover of 1857, followed by an 1853 usage of the 8 baj black on white, plus a cover with 40cts imperf on yellow and a front with perf 10cts orange pair. Then probable reprints with the 1867/68 issues with extensive shades for each denomination from 2cts green to 80cts pink, approximately one third perforated and two thirds imperforated, with the majority being finely printed from original dies. Some of these of course may well be genuine, please inspect carefully, a challenging and interesting viewing awaits.
Interesting original collection on old fashioned album leaves of the early classic period, mint and used with a few additional covers. Best part is the 1862 first issues with scarce mint as well as better used examples, with shades, much requiring research in foreign catalogs. We note 4 examples of the 10c bistre unused and 22 used copies, then the 80c yellow with 4 used examples, also the 1863 15c blue including a pair one with double head other missing head, blocks, multiples and then various of later issues to the 2l different printings, London and Turin. A fantastic original collection including 1860s imperforates and multiples as well. Total catalog by Sassone on a quick overview easily in the region of 60.000€++(approx $80,000 at the time of going to press). Viewing is highly recommended, considerable potential here. (Image)
Mint and used collection of hundreds on old-fashioned specialised album pages in a KaBe volume, starting with several classics of 1861/63 requiring identification, then the 1863 Victor Emmanuel II defins complete used, 1870/1903 postage dues complete used with the better blue and brown types on the Lire values (#J3/J11, #J13/J20), 1877 surcharges on officials complete used (#37/44), 1884/86 Parcels complete used only missing the 20cts (#Q1, Q3/Q6), 1889 Humbert I 60cts violet mint and used (#55), 1891 5 lire blue and rose genuine used (#72), 1890 surcharges on parcels complete used (#58/63) and mint only missing the 2cts on 50cts. The collection continues in the same vein with pleasant surprises such as the non Scott listed &lsquo, segnattase vaglia&rsquo, series of 1924 complete used to 3 lire, social security issues of 1924, a range of 1920s defins with advertising labels including two different Campari types with the 15cts greenish black mint, Columbia gramophone with 50cts violet used, Singer sewing machines with 50cts used pair, etc, as well as further good regulars and back of the book with Zeppelins, 1934 medal of valor complete mint (#331/341, #C66/C72), 1936 airposts complete mint, useful 'Venezia Giulia' occupations, etc, etc. Occasional faults as to be expected with a collection of this vintage. An interesting collector&rsquo,s collection with much extra material outside the printed spaces and much more here than described. Please inspect.
