An in-depth, mainly used collection of many hundreds of stamps and covers put together by a dedicated collector over many decades, on blank and printed pages, as well as small auction lots waiting to be incorporated in the collection, all housed in one large album. The collection begins with Netherlands Indies with mint #1 and used #2, extremely presentable, good color examples with minor faults mentioned for accuracy's sake only, then the 1870/88 Williams to 2gl.50cts with 10cts and 50cts also on 25cts postal stationery to Prussia in 1891, a beautiful and scarce three-color combination, followed by the next page with 1883/90 numerals, 1892/94 Wilhelminas and 1899-1900 surcharges all complete with lots of superb cancels, followed by extensive perforation varieties and shade studies, as well as 7 1/2 cts stationery to the same addressee as the tricolor piece, through turn of the century issues and surcharges densely packed on the page with many varieties outside the printed spaces and shades mounted one over the other, etc. Then further postal stationery again to the same correspondence, leading on to an excellent showing of regional issues with Java complete inc. inverted o/ps, then 1912/40 defins again loaded with varieties mint and used, 1923 5gld orange brown high value mint, etc., Another good cover of this period is a 1922 postage due cover to US with 12 1/2cts on 17 1/2cts surcharge, 'T' handstamp with manuscript ,'27 1/2' ,and boxed 'ontoereikend'. Highlights in the Indies continue with a 1947 cover with 45cts franking made up from 2 1/2cts university of medicine pair and 8x 5cts huts to Illinois with 12cts US postage dues and markings, through airposts complete inc. 'Pelikan' cover, extensive postage dues inc. 7 1/2cts salmon on cover from New Zealand to Java, officials complete with top values mint, Japanese occupations and lots of non Scott listed forerunners of the Republic.Only a brief outline on the rest, equally as good with strong Surinam inc. mint first issues, the very scarce 1898 10cts on 25cts ultra used, the seldom seen 1923 Wilhelmina anniversary complete mint to 5gld, through to postage dues with lots of types identified on mint first issues, , Curacao with 1892/96 Wilhelminas complete mint, 1895 ,'2 1/2 ,cent' surcharge unused (as issued), 1904/08 defins complete mint to 2 1/2gld, the top value mint and used, 1915/33s complete mint and used, 1948/49 blue-green postage dues complete mint, etc. Far more here than described in this very specialised collection. It deserves a thorough viewing, particularly as much is in parallel mint and used with crowded pages where many stamps are displayed on top of the other, integrated logically with the postal history, completely uncataloged.

Highlights begin with the 1853 Maria II first issues inc. the #1 5r brown with four margins, extremely generous on two sides (cat. $850), a study of the 25r blue with a range of shades, the 50r green (#3, cat. $875) and the scarce 100 reis (#4, cat. $1,900) with four even margins and a blue bar cancel '52', signed, tiny thin mentioned for accuracy's sake only, not at all detracting from the spectacular appearance of this rare stamp. Then the King Pedro V issues with the scarce 1855 5r red brown, an excellent copy with four margins, wide at right, signed, with an unusual negative '77' bar cancel (#5, cat. $900), followed by the 50r green unused with signatures (#7, cat. $500), several used copies each of the 50r and 100r lilac including superb copies again with enormous margins. Please inspect carefully, page for page, sleepers will definitely be present especially in the classics.
An old-time collection housed in a Behrens album with much value in the classics, some of which are in absolutely superb condition and would make excellent individual items in their own right, with the 'Scott retail' secondary to the real value, they are that beautiful. Some of the stamps in that category would be the Queen Maria 100r lilac (#4, Scott retail $1,900), an exceptional example used on piece with margins good to large on three sides and enormous at left, 1862 King Luiz 50r green and 100r lilac (#15/16) both with extraordinary margins all round, then the 1866 imperfs complete with every stamp having been chosen for superb four margined quality - an extremely good looking group (#17/24, $528). The 1867s include the 10r yellow, 20r bister, 80r orange and the scarce 240r violet in similarly select quality (#26/27, #30, #44, $805). The collection then proceeds in the same vein well into the 20th century, loaded with better material, including the 1894 Navigators complete used (#97/109, $308), 1895 Saint Anthony series complete used (#132/146, $1,220), 1940 World Expo souvenir sheet mint never hinged (#594a), and much more. Must be viewed for a proper appreciation of what is here and the superb quality that characterises this wonderful collection, especially in the 19th century. (Image)
